Statement on Ukraine
The International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations is distressed by the attack launched against Ukraine and joins with all peace-loving people of goodwill and faith in offering prayers for the safety and wellbeing of all people caught up in the conflict, particularly innocent non-combatants. We take special note of the adherents of the churches with which IJCIC is in dialogue, including the Vatican, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the World Evangelical Alliance, and the World Council of Churches, as we continue to pray for and support the Jewish community of Ukraine. Rabbi David Sandmel, chair of IJCIC, said, “Our religious traditions each condemn unjust war and aggression and support the prophetic vision of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. We call for a cessation of hostilities and commitment to dialogue and diplomacy.
