September 19, 2023 – The International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations (IJCIC), the official representative of world Jewry to the leadership of other world religions, mourns the tragic loss of thousands of lives due to the recent Moroccan earthquake and Libyan floods. In this sacred season of our High Holidays, IJCIC extends its condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and offers prayers for their healing and comfort.
The loss of any single person is a tragedy, as we value the worth of each individual as equivalent to all of humanity (Mishnah Sanhedrin 4:5). The staggering losses of these two catastrophes leave all of humanity bereft.
May the memories of each person who perished in these disasters be remembered for blessing.
